Interesting news regarding Longhorn Football is hard to come by in the doldrums of the off-season. To quell this, diehard fans often take to forums or social media to discuss topics such as “Way to Early Top 25s” or recruiting official visits. Fortunately for the sneakerhead sect of the fan base, today’s news should give them something to be excited about. While we may still be a long way out from UT taking on Louisiana Tech in the 2019 season opener, pictures have leaked for what appears to be this year’s “Week Zero” Texas sneaker release from Nike: the Air Zoom Pegasus 36.

This Texas themed Pegasus features a grey upper with burnt orange accents on the Swoosh, laces, and Flywire. The Longhorn logo is featured on the lateral side of the heel and on the tongue, above the Pegasus 36 label tag. A burnt orange insole with UT’s “Hook’em Horns” phrase in white gives the sneaker some additional Texas branding.

If this leak holds true, this would also mark the first time that Nike has gone with a running shoe instead of a training shoe in the now 6-year history of the annual “Week Zero” release. Additionally, the Pegasus 36 is also the first UT branded running shoe to ever see a retail release, breaking into a space normally dominated by trainers and KD basketball kicks. The choice to go with a Pegasus makes a lot of sense, as while the players and staff may use training shoes in the weight room, they often opt for running shoes while on the sideline, traveling, or at leisure.

While the Pegasus 36 hasn’t officially released yet, we do know that the shoe will feature Nike Zoom Air bags in the heel and forefoot as well as a Cushlon foam midsole for responsive cushioning. A breathable engineered mesh upper also makes a return, having appeared on all Pegasus model’s throughout the last half-decade. Cushioned, durable, and well-rounded can all be used to describe the all-time best-selling running shoe line in the world, and this iteration of the Pegasus will likely be no different.

No release date has been announced yet for these UT Pegasus, but if it stays consistent with other “Week Zero” drops they will likely release sometime in early August. Until then, what do you think of the Texas Pegasus 36s? Do you think Nike made the right call going with a running shoe, or should they have stuck with a trainer? Let us know down below!
