The start of new basketball season for the Texas Longhorns means new player exclusive Nike KDs for the team. KD is of course the initials for Kevin Durant; two time Finals MVP and NBA champion for the Golden State Warriors, as well as the 2007 Naismith Player of Year during his lone season at the University of Texas.
Nike has been cranking out University of Texas KDs every year since Durant’s first signature shoe back in 2009. However, the last three year have seen the basketball team outfitted with three different Texas colorways for the season. The 2018-19 campaign is no exception, and KD and Nike have ensured that the Horns are properly equipped for any and all situations on the court.
What is different this year is the styling of the colorways themselves. While years past have seen player exclusive KDs feature white, grey, and black uppers with burnt orange accents, this year’s pairs all make heavy use of the Longhorn’s traditional burnt orange color on the Flyknit upper. This marks the first time that burnt orange has been used in conjunction with Flyknit on a Nike shoe. A Longhorn logo is also stitched on to the heel counter on each pair, cementing them as Texas sneakers. All in all these are a fresh take on Longhorn KDs, and they definitely stand out compared to the other shoes in the series.
Unfortunately for us these are likely destined to remain player exclusives, unavailable to the public like so many other great UT shoes. However, if you could have have one pair which one would you take? Personally I think they are all great, but I’d probably lean towards the burnt orange pair with black accents as it seems like it’d be easier to wear, but that’s just me.
