Marquise Goodwin has had one heck of an athletic career so far. Between catching passes in the National Championship Game, competing in the 2012 Olympics, and playing seven season in the NFL, its safe to say that Goodwin has been one of the most successful UT wide-receivers in recent memory. Last Saturday, Goodwin added “University of Texas Graduate” to his list of accomplishments, fulfilling a promise he made to his mother and former track coach. To celebrate this landmark event, Marquise commissioned TrillWood Studios to create a special 1 of 1 of pair of custom UT Air Jordan 1s for him to wear during the graduation ceremony.
These “Texas Luxe” Bespoke Jordan 1s might be the most premium pair of UT sneakers we’ve seen to date. Handcrafted from the ground up using an Air Jordan 1 Retro as the base, these kicks use top grade Italian and French leather. Burnt orange Badalassi Carlo leather is used for the overlays, which will age to match the wear pattern of the owner.
Perhaps most notably, the mid-panel and toebox use material sourced from an upcycled Louis Vuitton handbag, which gives the shoes a high-end feel. The remainder of the exterior is done up in black and white, a more neutral aesthetic that nicely contrasts the more luxurious elements of these Texas Jordan 1s.
The devil is in the details for these Texas Longhorns 1s. The quilted leather insoles feature the MG logo on the right shoe and the TW (for TrillWood Studios) logo on the left. The TW logo is also visible on the tongue of each sneaker. A burnt orange Longhorn logo is printed on the reverse side of the tongue, along with Goodwin’s combine 40-yard-dash time and Olympic qualifying long jump distance. Finally, a Japanese Plonge leather sockliner and memory foam sole lining ensures that these UT Air Jordan 1s will be as comfortable as they are luxurious.
Marquise also commissioned a toddler pair of Texas Air Jordan 1s to ensure that his daughter, Marae, would be equipped to celebrate this special occasion with him. These adorable AJ1s feature a burnt orange leather swoosh and heel piece, paired with white accents on the mid-panel and toebox tip.
The remainder of the toebox and the tongue sport the same Louis Vuitton handbag material as their adult counterparts. Additionally, the tongue of each shoe also has a burnt orange tab with a white G, which presumably stands for Goodwin. Black laces and black sockliner round out a high quality pair of toddler shoes that are a perfect match to the full sized “Texas Luxe” 1s.
What do you think of these Air Jordan 1 “Texas Longhorns” customs? Did TrillWood Studios and Marquise Goodwin hit it out of the park with these, or are they a little too over the top for your taste? Let us know down below, and congratulations to Marquise for graduating from the University of Texas!
