The “Texas Longhorns” colorway has been a mainstay on Kevin Durant’s sneaker line since its inception in 2009. But although Nike was keen to release pairs to the public early on, recent years have seen the Swoosh keep Texas KDs exclusive to UT players and athletic staff members. Indeed, a Texas branded Kevin Durant shoe has not been sold at retail since 2017, with the Longhorn KD9s being the last pair to receive this treatment. While that streak unfortunately doesn’t show any signs of stopping, Nike and the University of Texas have seemingly given fans a compromise in the form of a burnt orange pair of KD 13 TBs.
This colorway of the 13s opts to keep it simple, which is understandable given its “team bank” designation. A burnt orange upper paired with white Nike Swooshes and a white outsole harken back to the golden era of UT KDs, when Nike was keen to release Durant’s yearly signature shoe in UT’s iconic color scheme. Unfortunately, while this shoe proudly sports the school’s signature burnt orange color, it lacks any University of Texas branding.
These burnt orange KD 13s are available now on Eastbay.com for $150. Are you planning on grabbing a pair, or are you going to hold out hope for the release of a Longhorn branded edition of Durant’s latest signature shoe?
