With the recent conclusion of the annual Orange-White Game , the college football offseason has official begun. But although the burnt orange faithful will have wait over four months for the return of Longhorn football, UT sneakerheads can thankfully get an early look at what might be this year’s pair of “Week Zero” kicks; the Nike Air Zoom Pegasus 38 “Texas”.

The third pair of official UT Pegasus created in as many years, these runners sport a predominantly light grey upper with a burnt orange heel. No UT shoe would be complete without school branding, and these 38s feature the Longhorn logo embossed on the heel and the “Hook’em Horns” motto on the tongue of the left shoe. Finally, a white outline of the Nike Swoosh on the upper, along with a white and dark grey midsole round out a relatively neutral pair of Texas sneakers.

At first glance, this year’s pair of UT Pegasus look pretty solid. This is the first time we’ve gotten a grey pair of Texas shoes since 2018s Nike Zoom Train Commands. While I would have preferred them to be burnt orange, I much prefer this color to an all-white pair of sneakers. Although I’m still not a fan of Nike’s continued copy-paste approach to the yearly college sneaker release, I really like the varied color blocking on these UT Pegasus 38s, and can definitely see myself getting a ton of wear out of them once they release.

While these Pegs currently do not have an official release date, if they stay consistent with previous Longhorn sneaker release patterns we can look for them to drop in either late July or early August.

What are your thoughts on this pair of Texas Pegasus 38s? Do you like the more muted light grey look, or should Nike have gone with a bolder, burnt orange upper instead?

  • Did these ever come out? We buy the Texas Pegasus that come out each year and never have been able to find these online or in stores.

  • I would have preferred to see them with a bolder burnt orange upper personally instead. I don’t hate the gray upper on these by any means and I agree with it being better than an all white upper. The gray is something a little bit different than seen in some time at least though and it is a clean look. I definitely agree with Nike getting lazy and basically copy pasting the design every year recently with color schemes being the only real difference at best. Something different every year would sell more shoes I would think but then again I don’t work for Nike either. It just makes a lot more sense to me to not release almost the same exact shoe every year when it comes to sales, especially when it comes to collectors.
