Nike tends to follow a semi-predictable pattern when it comes to Longhorn footwear. They tend to produce special makeup cleats for the football team, give a few player exclusive KDs to the basketball squads, and release 1-2 running/trainer shoes each year for the fans. However, every now and then the Swoosh will break from that trend, and bestow upon the fans and players something deviates from the norm . This time, that surprise comes in the form of a pair of Texas branded College Offcourt slides, perfect for the hot summer months that will soon be upon us.
Colorway wise these Longhorn slides are pretty straight forward. Starting from the bottom, the outsole of the sandal draws inspiration from the Nike Air Force 1, and is done up in UTs signature color. A pewter grey footbed made of Nike’s Revive foam provides comfort and stability for the wearer. Finally, a burnt orange strap embossed with the Longhorn logo and Nike Swoosh in white caps off this pair of UT slides, giving them a truly Texas feel.
These are the first UT branded slides to release since 2016, when Nike produced a Texas colorway in the Benassi Solarsoft slides. That pair of slides is easily my most worn pair of Longhorn footwear, and is one of my go-to options whenever I don’t feel like putting on an actual pair of shoes. That being said, I’m a bid fan of how these College Offcourt slides turned out, and I’m glad Nike went with burnt orange as their primary color rather than white.
The Texas Nike College Offcourt Slides are available now from various Nike retailers for $35. Do you think Nike should release Longhorn branded slides more often, or should they reserve UT branding for sneakers only?
