Converse in Burnt Orange: Customizable UT Chuck Taylors are Available Now

The ever-classic Chuck Taylor All Star gets the burnt orange treatment.

For the better part of the last decade and a half, the Nike brand has had a near monopoly on officially licensed University of Texas sneakers. While we are no doubt fans of the Swoosh on this page, it’s always exciting to see different brands take a stab at releasing a pair of University of Texas sneakers. Enter Converse (who is actually owned by Nike), which recently made their classic silhouette, the Chuck Taylor All Star, available for UT fans to customize in Texas colors and branding.

As a part of Converse’s “College Chucks By You” collection, these Chucks feature a variety of design aspects that can be edited to the creator’s liking. Being officially licensed Texas sneakers, buyers can chose to either have the Longhorn steerhead or throwback “Angry Bevo” logo imprinted on the lateral side of the upper. For additional branding, the shoes also feature font “TEXAS” on the tongue. Texas fans can also customize a variety of other aspects of shoe in UT’s signature burnt orange and white color combination, to create a custom pair of Chuck Taylors that fit their own personal style.

While I’m personally not a big Converse fan, I can’t deny that these look fantastic. The decision to include the “Angry Bevo” logo as an option was a great choice, as it’s a symbol that really fits with the vintage style of the Chuck Taylor. While the options provided are fairly limited, they do the job just fine and give Texas fans a chance to make a shoe that is truly their own. Hopefully, this release is a sign that we’ll get more chances to make officially licensed Texas sneakers in the near future (and that Nike will consider bringing back the UT Air Force 1s and Nike Dunks to their customization service).
