Daniel HuggettA new season usually means new cleats for Texas Football. Each year, the Longhorns are equipped with the latest footwear offerings from athletic apparel giant, Nike. This season looks to be no exception to this longstanding tradition, with the Swoosh outfitting UT with a Texas exclusive colorway of the Nike Vapor Edge 360 VC.
Blast from the Past
Texas will join other top programs, such as Oregon and Georgia, in wearing a special colorway of the Vapor Edge 360 VCs for the 2022 college football season. The cleats are a Protro (performance retro) version of one of Nike’s most celebrated silhouettes; the Vapor Carbon Elite 2014. The original Elite 2014s were the weapon of choice for many Longhorn skill players, and were worn by members of the team from their initial issue date in 2014 all the way through 2018. While this new variation differs from the original offering in a few ways (namely the design of the cleat plate and lack of a “bootie” construction), the 360 VCs are sure to be a big hit amongst players on the 2022 squad.
Colorway Description
These reimagined Vapor Carbons sport a clean all-white upper, a perfect match for UT’s “Stormtrooper” away uniforms. Texas’ signature burnt orange color accents the footwear, and can be found on the Swoosh, Flywire, and heel “Nike” logo. These Vapor Edges also feature a Longhorn logo on the tongue, similar to many of the other Nike cleats UT has worn in the past.
Perhaps the most unique design element on these VC 360s is the repeating Longhorn logo pattern found on the upper. This print is similar to the one found on the very first “Week Zero” Texas sneaker, the Lunar TR1, as well as the new gloves that players were spotted wearing for media day. This all-over pattern gives the Nike Vapor Edge 360 VCs a UT specific look, that will certainly stand out on the gridiron throughout the season.
Conclusion
Look for Texas to wear these new cleats over the course of the 2022 campaign. Worn in combination with UT’s new uniforms, the ‘Horns will have one of the cleanest looks in all of college football. While it remains to be seen if they will help the team run faster or tackle better, they will no doubt aid UT in the all-important “swag” department.
